Travel back to the 19th century in Historic Washington, Arkansas. Established on George Washington’s birthday in 1824, the town of Washington today is one of America’s premier historic villages.
The museum village includes historic, public and private buildings as well as many of Washington’s nineteenth century landscape features. These include streets bordered with catalpa, magnolia and other ornamental trees which have shaded the community for 150 years. The historic structures and grounds give a fascinating view of Washington and a taste of the peace and beauty of southwest Arkansas.
More than 30 carefully restored Arkansas landmarks and historic structures are on display. Classic examples of Southern Greek Revival and Federal architecture, Gothic Revival, Italianate, and hand-hewn timber framing or brace-frame cottage construction, stand as a legacy to life in Washington from 1824 to 1900. Tour the public buildings and homes. See the remarkable collections of antiques, guns and knives. Visit with the guides in period attire and ride the surrey on a tour of the various Arkansas historical sites in town for an unforgettable historic experience.
