LATHROP STATE PARK PHOTOS
Lathrop State Park is Colorado’s first state park. The park is 1,594 acres of recreational enjoyment nestled in the shadow of the Spanish Peaks in Southern Colorado.
The park’s two lakes offer a variety of boating and angling opportunities, as well as, recreation for all types of water activities. Martin Lake offers water skiing and power boating, as well as, sail boating. Because Martin is a warm-water lake, it makes it great for swimmers. Horseshoe Lake is a peaceful haven for canoeists, kayakers and sailors, as well as, other boaters at wakeless speeds. Catfish, bass, walleye and trout, as well as, blue gill thrive in both lakes. Horseshoe Lake is known for its large tiger muskies.
Lathrop is also the only Colorado State Park with a golf course. The 9-hole Walsenburg Golf Course is operated by the City of Walsenburg. Special rates and discounts are offered to Lathrop State Park Campers. Enjoy a quiet place to have breakfast, lunch and beverage of your choice at the club house. You can call the golf course at 719-738-2730.
We are pleased to announce that we also now have an equestrian trail west of Horseshoe Lake. A park pass is required. You can fill your water tank for your horse at Yucca Campground entrance. Parking is available in the designated area on the west side of Horseshoe Lake, therefore, use the posted equestrian trail from that point.
